Having a bit of fun with the Roller, April Wine lick.
The stock Marshall cab has the Celestion G10F-15 which is a very cool little speaker. I think companies like Fender, Vox and Marshall are really good at pairing their combos with good stock speakers. Now of course this is quite a small cabinet and it’s openback. The Randall is a closeback cabinet and much larger, quite oversized for the 12 inch Celestion Greenback…sonically it’s an excellent cabinet, plenty of bottom end as you can hear. In fact when I first heard it, I was convinced it was a 2X12!
The tone controls, volume were kept the same and I did my best to have a similar mic placement. Personally I would have tweeked the mic a bit for the Randal cab…but for comparison sake I didn’t!
Running a Gibson LPJ 2013 straight in, no pedals. Added delay, reverb in post production.
As a side note, it's really worth shining a flashlight against the grill cloth to know where the speaker is for mic placement. Some speakers are offset, some are not!
