Scientists warn 'don't flush your drugs' after discovering toxins in rivers

Potentially toxic levels of pharmaceutical drugs have been found in a quarter of river locations tested around the world.

A study by the University of York found drugs including beta blockers, antibiotics and antidepressants in 258 rivers from the Thames to the Brazilian Amazon.

Study leader Dr John Wilkinson said unwanted medicines should be given to pharmacies.
