After 22 seasons with the Patriots and Buccaneers, Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL in early February. However, not everyone believes his professional career is over. In the two weeks since Brady's retirement announcement, rumors of a possible comeback have floated. When he refused to rule out a comeback to the NFL, he only added fuel to the fire.
Brady's choice may also be influenced by the Buccaneers' salary cap situation. They went all-in to keep their championship-winning team in 2021 but fell short of a Super Bowl rematch. They now have to operate on a shoestring budget in order to keep important free agents like Chris Godwin, Carlton Davis, and Ryan Jensen.
"The issue in Tampa — they brought it back last year, but they didn't win a championship," Giardi explained. "There are some concerns about the cap now. Is it possible to bring everyone back? That does not appear to be the case. Maybe, just maybe, Tom Brady is thinking, 'I can't win a championship here, but maybe I can win one somewhere else.' He did not rule out the possibility of playing football."
