What are the benefits of becoming a Canadian Citizen | How to achieve Canadian Passport ? Find Out!!
Welcome to another chapter of Ajay Sharma Show, wherein I impart knowledge on the latest immigration updates, programs, processes, benefits, and opportunities. Today we will discuss the benefits of Canadian Citizenship. Every PR applicant has one question in mind– What is the next step after becoming a permanent resident?
After becoming a Canada PR Visa holder, every individual's ultimate goal is to achieve Canadian Citizenship. How do you attain Canadian Citizenship?
• First, you must be a Canadian permanent resident
• Must have lived in Canada for a minimum of 3 years in the last five years (precisely 1,095 days)
• Must have filed their taxes during the stay
• Appear for the citizenship test and clear the exam
• Prove your language skills in either English or French
Once you become a Canadian Citizen, you are entitled to numerous benefits. Below are the details:
• Get a Canadian Passport – You get the power of the 7th most powerful passport globally with travel visa-free or with limited restrictions on travel into 185 countries across the world. You may need to surrender your Indian Passport as India does not allow dual Citizenship. However, you have the provision of an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) Card to travel in and out of India.
• No worry about losing Citizenship status - Unlike the permanent residents, who must comply with residency requirements, Canadians can spend time indefinitely outside of Canada without the risk of losing Citizenship. Even if a Canadian citizen is involved in a crime, they will not lose Citizenship, while permanent residents will face deportation considering the seriousness of the crime.
• Eligible for more jobs - Citizens can access all available jobs, even the unelected government jobs and those jobs requiring security clearances. And they can be eligible for employment and pension benefits.
• Ease of Entering and working outside of Canada – As a Canadian Citizen, you can enter the United States and stay for 180 days. And you may even be able to work if you meet the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) provisions.
• No Need to Renew the Immigration Documentation – PR Cards are valid for only five years, and PR Card Holders must renew the card and pay a new fee every five years. Citizens have no similar obligation and can travel internationally by renewing their passports every ten years.
• Can Vote and Run for Political Office – You will be entitled to Right-to-vote in provincial and national elections. Additionally, they may hold political office and represent Canadian constituents on taxes, education, and foreign policy.
• Benefits for Children – Only citizens have the right to transfer their Citizenship to their descendants. Even if their children are born outside of Canada, they are eligible for Citizenship.
• Can be called for Jury Duty – You can also become an essential part of the Canadian Judiciary by acting as a Jury member for court trails
