Why Billionaires Build Wooden Skyscrapers

Billionaires are building wooden skyscrapers.

This is the Mjorstarnet in Norway. Standing 18 stories tall, it is the world's tallest wooden skyscraper. Inside it are hotel rooms, offices, and even a swimming pool.

So why is it made of wood?

This was built for The Al Arabi Investment group. They are part of one of the largest banks in the Middle East. And they asked to build the skyscraper with a special wood called massive timber.

So what's special about it?

Massive timber is what you get by gluing and pressing wood in special ways. This is groundbreaking for 3 reasons:

1. Just like regular wood, it is light and easy to transport
2. Just like regular wood, it is extremely sustainable
3. The end material has a similar strength to concrete and steel. It is so strong, American architects plan on building a wooden skyscraper with 80 stories.
