Different questions are being raised by fans and
followers of Dr John Watts are flooding his series of hugely popular
educational videos with queries related to hair transplants and hair growth
issues.
In this educational video, noted dermatologist & trichologist
and one of the Best Hair Transplant Surgeons in Hyderabad Dr John Watts answers
select shortlisted questions of viewers related to hair growth, hair hall and
hair transplant.
KGV Telugu Channel asks: “I have been
using Tugain brand Minoxidil for a year. I am not able to get this brand now.
Can I use another brand of Minoxidil?”
In his response, Dr John Watts tells KGV Telugu Channel that
any brand of Minoxidil can be used for hair growth. “Yes! Generally, reputed brands are known to maintain quality standards, so they could be used as a priority.
However, if your brand is not available, you can try another brand,” said Dr John Watts.
Tech Boy asks: “I have recently used hair straightening procedure after which I observed that my hair has turned into brownish tinge. There is also some hair loss. What should I do?
In his response, Dr John Watts reiterated that the use of hair straightener is always a bad idea for hair as it leaves an adverse impact. “Hair straightener can harm the hair in two different ways,” informed Dr John Watts.
Firstly, since chemical colours are used for this process, the scalp absorbs some of these harmful colours. Secondly, when ironing is used, the superficial layer of the hair i.e the cuticle may get damaged.
“In this process, the hair colour may change from black to brownish due to over exposure to heat. The ideal solution is to eat nutritious food and use a hair conditioner to come out of this mess. It would be good to see a dermatologist ensure there is not much damage,” he advised.
Bharat K asks: “I have been using Minoxidil & Finasteride. I plan to undergo a hair transplant procedure after a year. However, my donor hair region is thin. Can the hair that I regrow with Minoxidil & Finasteride be used as hair grafts and later transplanted?
In his response, Dr John Watts tells Bharat K that the hair growth attributed to the use of Minoxidil and Finasteride does not stay permanently. “No sooner you stop using these medications, the hair growth stops and they fall. Hence, this hair cannot be used for transplantation,” he answered.
For use of hair grafts for transplantation, generally, the non-DHT influenced hair is extracted as they grow long and stay permanent. In fact, Minoxidil or Finasteride influenced growing hair does not grow long enough.
However, Dr John Watts tells Bharat that the use of these medications can be continued if one wants to improve the growth of the donor hair region but these hair are technically unfit for transplantation.
Yogi Unity asks: “When we take a head bath, we witness hair loss. Can this hair usually grow back on its own?”
In his response, Dr John Watts tells Yogi Unity that the
hair lost during a head bath or any other reasons, usually grow back but whether they grow up to the same quality and length is not certain.
“If one is taking poor nutrition, then definitely the hair growth would not be the same as earlier. Similarly, if one is facing hair loss under the influence of androgenetic alopecia, the next phase of hair growth would see the size become smaller and smaller till it becomes invisible to the naked eye,” he informed.
Eventually, such hair becomes vellus hair though one can still see them growing if one takes a look under the microscope!
