Ethiopia is a country endowed with the potential to produce up to 45,000 MW of renewable energy. Yet it is still in a miserable state with no less than 56% of its population lacks access to electricity. As one of the nations in the world with an acute electricity shortage, Ethiopia launches the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in 2011. Ethiopia has told the whole world that the dam is based on the principle of equitable utilization of the Nile waters and it will not cause any significant harm to other riparian countries
