Is Scotland about to become independent? #shorts #geopolitics #maps #unitedkingdom

In 2014, the Scots voted on their independence in a referendum. 55% of Scots voted to remain in the UK, but this was only because, according to independence supporters, Scotland would no longer be part of the EU if it left the UK.

Then in 2016, when the entire UK voted to leave the EU, it was again clear that the vast majority of Scots wanted to remain, and after it became clear that the UK would leave the EU, Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland's First Minister, called for another referendum on independence.

This time, however, the British government did not agree, as there had been such a referendum only a few years ago.
However, even without Westminster's consent, the minister wants to proceed with a new, modified referendum to be held on October 19, 2023. Whether this new referendum complies with the law is a matter for the Supreme Court to determine.
But would Scots really vote for independence this time?
Surprisingly, not much has changed since 2014 and Brexit. According to the BBC, around 51% of Scots would vote to remain in the United Kingdom.
