If you look at a map of the United Kingdom you will notice that the Isle of man is not part of it, but why is that?
The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, Guernsey, and Jersey, are Crown Dependencies, which means that they are the personal property of the Crown.
Their head of state is King Charles III, the King of the United Kingdom, who acts through a representative, the Lieutenant-Governor, who has a mostly ceremonial role.
The Crown Dependencies have their own parliaments, governments, and laws. The United Kingdom is only responsible for defense and international relations. Similar to the relationship between India and Buhtan. Though it should be said that the citizens of the Crown Dependencies are British citizens yet have different passports than citizens of the UK.
