Steve Hightower, a former R&B performer from the 1970s who formerly shared the stage with groups like Gladys Knight and the Pips, is struggling to find the right job. He decides to become a music teacher at a high school after a few unsuccessful attempts at being a musician. He gets used to the celebrity lifestyle and learns how to deal with his class of misbehaving but well-intentioned students as well as the difficulties of working a nine to five job.
