CHALLENGE U.S. HEGEMONY | Netherlands won't hastily accept U.S. chip restrictions on China

In the last two years, the Netherlands has frequently become the focus of global attention because of the U.S. siege on China. In order to suppress the development of China's chip industry, the United States has repeatedly pressured its ally, the Netherlands, to restrict the export of high-tech products such as photolithography machines to China. But the Biden administration's pressure has never made much progress, and has also made some Dutch officials feel discontent. Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Schreiner Maher said again that the Netherlands will not tighten exports to China in terms of chip manufacturing technology as requested by the United States.

According to the Dutch BNR news radio reported on January 17, U.S. President Joe Biden held talks with Dutch Prime Minister Rutte at the White House that day, trying to convince the Netherlands to limit exports of chip manufacturing technology to China. Although Rutte said after the meeting that the negotiations have made "some progress," but he did not make any clear commitment. The U.S. media commented that this seems to mean that Biden's attempt to bring the Netherlands around China has still failed to make "significant progress".
From an objective point of view, the Netherlands opposes the United States to continue to strengthen the chip sanctions against China, for the sake of Dutch self-interest, but this also proves from a side, the United States that hegemonic thinking is unpopular.
