As part of the Conservatives' controversial Nationality and Borders bill, there is a requirement for EU visitors to get an electronic travel authorisation if moving between the EU and the UK. This is all fine and if the government wants to impose this it can. However, when it comes to those travelling between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, it is not only divisive but completely unworkable. It would be a law that the UK government could not and would not enforce. So why do it?
